 Don't know where to start?
Start Here.

When you're struggling, everything can feel super overwhelming.  These are a few links that may help point you in the right direction.  It's pretty clear at this point I'm no medical professional, so please always consult your doctor as well.  These are simply places that helped me, or have been shown to help others.

  • Yoga with Adriene - It would be impossible to describe how many people's lives Adriene Mishler has changed with her free yoga channel.  Without a doubt, I would not have started yoga without this.  There are hundreds of videos to choose from that are all beginner friendly, and she is just a lovely teacher.

  • The Underbelly - If you think yoga isn't for you, Jessamyn will help you understand that's not true.  Her classes helped me to work with my body instead of against it, and truly and completely changed my yoga practice.  This is the only of these recommendations that is not 100% free, but I can't stress enough how instrumental this site has been for me.

  • Jason Stephenson's meditation channel - I started listening to these when I was still in the hospital, and this man is gifted at what he does.  I still use them several times a week.

  • r/sober - while for the most part social media has zero good things for our mental health, this community is astoundingly supportive.  Just reading through comments and questions is a wealth of information and reminders that you are not alone.

  • Recovery Dharma - this is an alternative to AA that is centered around Buddhist principles, and I found it less daunting and more welcoming than alcoholics anonymous.

  • Alcoholics Anonymous - while AA didn't resonate with me, it does with so many others, and is still the number one recommended place to start.

  • Ally Boothroyd's yoga nidra - Ally is some sort of angel, I'm convinced.  Her yoga nidra videos have helped my anxiety in a tremendous way, and I cannot recommend her enough.

***** I realize these are particularly challenging times for many marginalized and minority groups in our country.  As the current administration tries to move forward with their harmful policies,

I will do my best to share resources that I hope can help all of us to be true allies in the fight for equality and freedom for all.*****
